Vale Costa Wins Jack Kramer Invitational

ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, California – LSU sophomore Joana Vale Costa secured her first tournament title as a Tiger on Sunday, winning the 2014 Jack Kramer Invitational.

Vale Costa knocked off USC junior Giuliana Olmos by a score of 2-6, 7-6(6), 6-0. Olmos is ranked No. 38 nationally.

“I’m really excited for Joana to take her first title. She really earned the win today against a very experienced and solid player,” said LSU head coach Julia Sell. “She was down a match point in the second and came back to win. This tournament has been really helpful for her mental game. I think she is starting to play very mature tennis and when she’s doing that, she is extremely difficult to beat.”

Junior Ella Taylor and sophomore Skylar Holloway also posted victories Sunday in consolation singles matches.

“This event has been incredible for our entire team. We got a lot of match play against some of the best players in the country and took some wins against the reigning National Champions (UCLA),” said Sell. That kind of experience is instrumental to their development and overall confidence.

The Jack Kramer Invitational and Roberta Alison Classic mark the conclusion of the Lady Tiger’s fall season. LSU will be back in action January 18 as the Lady Tigers take on McNeese State and Southern University at “Dub” Robinson Stadium.
